Balado TOFU with Tasty Tomato Salsa

Balado tofu with tasty tomato sauce, one of my Indonesian comfort dishes and it’s just originally vegan without making any modifications. Basically, I am just making it in the “lazy way”, because normally you have to blend the spices manually with cobek but I decided to use a blender instead.

  • 250 gr natural firm tofu (triangle thin sliced)
  • 4 shallots
  • 2 cloves garlic
  • 1 red chili (seeded and roughly chopped)
  • 1 red tomato (cut in small diced)
  • Salt and pepper
  • Whole cane sugar
  • Extra virgin olive oil
  • Fry the sliced tofu by referring to this recipe: fried tofu.
  • Meanwhile, put the shallots, garlic, red chili, and tomato in a food processor. Blend them until they have become smooth and thick.
  • Heat the oil in a pan, add in the blended sauce, sauté, and cook for a few minutes until fragrant.
  • Stir in the fried tofu, stir to mix well then add salt, pepper, and sugar (if needed). Cook for few minutes until the tofu absorbs well the sauce.
  • Serve hot with rice or quinoa!
